By skildpadder
1080p pictures come out awesome! The product is advertised as being capable of recording 1080p video. The software that comes with the webcam does not support it! The fine print of the ad states that additional commercial software is required to film video in 1080p not included! So far I have been unable to locate ANY commercial software that allows this webcam to record video in 1080p! Microsoft does not know any one who produces the software either as I have spent several hours through trouble tickets with them on the issue. So WHY is Microsoft advertising this feature???? The 720p video recording works well and the picture quality is better than my old HP HD-3110 webcam that this webcam replaced. Tech support kept telling me it was designed for home use only! If that is the case, then why did they call it "Business Studio"??? The Lifecam software also does not give me the option of recording audio via line in function as the webcam microphone is not capable of recording loud noises like live bands. I ended up downloading Arcsoft's Webcam Companion 4 software so I could record the audio feed via line in. Yes the auto focus function does have a problem in low light, but it seemed to clear up by either zooming in manually on the object or by closing out the webcam software and restarting it. So far I have only had that issue once and I was using it in a half light situation. The lenscap supplied does not stay on the lens unless you tape it on! So if you want a great webcam for normal around the house stuff, this one works well! If you are looking to record 1080p video, then keep on looking for a better camera. This one does not support it! I give the camera 5 stars as it is great, but I give the software 2 1/2 stars for not supporting the webcam's capabilities! Here is a link to a Youtube playlist that shows some of the video I have recorded with this camera: [...]

By Deborah Sue St Clair
I was looking for a web cam that I could attach to a tripod. Microsoft's 1080p HD LifeCam has fullfilled this well. The image quality is good and resolution is great. It has a pecular and unusual mount that distinguishes it from most other webcams. I'm actually using it to record photo IDs in custom database software, so this cam has gone to the office.
The standard photography tripod mount is part of the mount and the mount is bendable and rubber covered. This little cam will sit on a flat surface and can easily be handheld. The base is the units strength and weakness. It won't clamp to anything without a tripod clamp without resorting to duct tape.
Beware that Microsoft has a similar looking version with 720p resolution that does not have the 1/4"x 20 tripod mounting. That one is less expensive and the images on the Amazon site show that it does not have a tripod mount. I bought 2 of those by mistake as the text does not clearly distinguish these two similar looking products. But if your reason, like mine, was having this mount, get the 1080p one.

By LifeCam Studio Believer
Bought LifeCam Studio webcam for Skype use; performance far exceeds my expectations. Purchased at $55. with Amazon Prime two-day shipping. LifeCam Studio has proved a true value. If not already aware, final resolution used for connection set by Skype, using lowest common denominator between hardware capabilities at both ends. However, my local live video stream is stunning (even at 640x480), e.g., the image color balance and noise-free image, in daylight or in mixed lighting at night. Expect will translate to good video captures, too. Fortunate to have PC hardware that supports LifeCam Studio, Intel Core i7 processor and GPU dedicated graphics card. Mount to monitor is simple and effective. Unlike competing unit, "Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920," allows adjustment in horizontal plane. Autofocus is sharp and responsive. Comment on install and setup: After first plugged in USB 2.0 cable to PC, Windows 7 x64 downloaded drivers without a hitch. Then, LifeCam Studio prompted to, "Install Microsoft LifeCam" control software and driver update; did not install. Had read in review and forum, not worthwhile. Confirmed Windows 7 x64 had initially installed the latest drivers, anyway, 3.60.250.0. However, if your PC configuration meets hardware requirements, recommend "CyberLink YouCam 5" for use as control software; in addition to splitting video stream among video applications, adds real-time "auto lighting" and "TrueTheater" for further image enhancement.
